From the steppe to your wardrobe
Undarmaa er mere end en webshop. Det er et sted, hvor cashmere, yak- og kameluld bliver forbundet med livet på den mongolske steppe, med små producenter i Mongoliet og med en nordisk garderobe, hvor kvalitet skal kunne mærkes og bruges længe.
My name is Undarmaa. I was born and raised in Mongolia, where cashmere, yak wool and camel wool were not first and foremost luxuries, but a natural part of everyday life. In a country with cold winters, great distances and a life close to nature, you learn early that good materials matter.
Nomadic life gave me an understanding of wool, warmth and quality that still stays with me. It is not only about softness, but about materials that work in real life — and about the respect for animals, nature and people that lies behind them.
My parents lived for a time in the capital, Ulaanbaatar, but later chose to return to the countryside and the life they came from. They wanted an everyday life closer to nature, the animals and the nomadic way of life that has shaped our family for generations. That choice has meant a great deal to me.
When I visit my family in Mongolia today, it is not only as a traveller. It is a return to something I know from the inside: the landscape, the everyday life, the animals, the materials and the people who still live with nature as part of their daily lives.
Da jeg senere boede i Danmark, blev forbindelsen til Mongoliet ved med at fylde. Jeg savnede ikke kun landet, men også materialerne: den lette varme fra cashmere, den særlige karakter i yakuld og den rolige naturlighed i kameluld.
Undarmaa opstod ud af ønsket om at forbinde de to verdener. Vi ville bringe mongolske naturfibre ind i en nordisk garderobe — enkelt, varmt og med en kvalitet, der ikke kun skal se godt ud, men også bruges år efter år.
For us, Mongolia is not only about origin. It is about closeness to the materials and about choosing products with greater care. When we work with cashmere, yak and camel wool from Mongolia, we work with fibres that have a natural connection to the climate, the landscape and the people who live with the animals.
That is also why Undarmaa is not built around fast collections. We choose few products, improve them over time and look for qualities that keep making sense in the wardrobe.
