DETAILS

If you want to know more about Mongolia, Mette Holm's book is a good place to start. "Voices from the Steppe" takes you on an unforgettable journey through Mongolia's magnificent landscapes and deep into the heart of its culture and traditions. The book is not just a collection of stories, but an introduction to a country rich in history, tradition, and unique beauty. The author, who has spent considerable time in Mongolia, shares through her words a world that is both fascinating and inspiring.

The book presents a series of personal stories and anecdotes from people who live in this rugged and often challenging environment. From nomads wandering across the vast steppes to artists seeking to preserve and promote their cultural heritage, Voices from the Steppe gives a voice to those who are otherwise rarely heard in the wider world. Mette Holm also describes the nomads' special pact with nature and their dependence on their livestock, including horses, goats, camels, sheep, and yaks.

With its focus on authenticity and a deep respect for Mongolian culture, the book offers a unique insight into the life and soul of this fascinating country. It is a book for those who seek to understand and connect with the traditions and values that have shaped Mongolia and its people over centuries.

The book is illustrated throughout with Søren Zeuth's fantastic photos, some of which can be seen here on this page. Read Judith Betak's review in Berlingske Tidende. "Voices from the Steppe" was created on the initiative of the Danish Mongolian Society, which works to spread awareness of Mongolian culture in Denmark.

CARE

Yak wool requires the same gentle treatment as cashmere. Wash in lukewarm water with a mild wool detergent and dry flat on a towel. Air frequently instead of washing to preserve the natural properties of the fibers.

MATERIALS

Yak wool is naturally warm, breathable, and durable. It comes from the yak, which lives on the Mongolian plateau, where it is adapted to extreme temperatures. The yarn provides a soft but robust material with a natural, rustic look.
