Altai plaid

Altai is woven in 100% Mongolian yak wool with a classic pattern on the front and a solid dark back. The two sides give the plaid a varied look and make it easy to use in the sofa, over a chair, or as an extra layer on the bed. Yak wool has good insulating properties and gives comfortable warmth, while the material remains breathable. At 150 × 200 cm, Altai is roomy enough to wrap around the body and also works as a decorative plaid in the home. Fringe along the edge finishes the woven look.

Yak wool stays beautiful longest with gentle handling. Air your garment between wears, and wash it in cold water with wool detergent. Dry flat and avoid wringing. Store folded rather than on a hanger to keep its shape.

Yak wool comes from the animal's soft undercoat, just like cashmere from the goat — it's not the guard hairs but the layer beneath that's used. It's combed out in spring, when the animal naturally sheds its winter coat.

A single yak yields enough wool for a whole sweater on its own — far more than a single cashmere goat can provide. Both the yarn and the knitting are made in Mongolia, the same place the animals live.
