Mönkh mittens

Mönkh is knitted in 100% yak wool and combines a light feel with the warmth that makes yak wool especially well suited for winter use. The discreet pattern on the top is knitted in Natural light brown and Natural platinum grey – yak wool's own shades, which are completely undyed. The ribbed edge finishes close around the wrist and helps keep the warmth in, while the fine undercoat makes the mittens soft and comfortable to wear. A simple pair for cold days, where the material's natural colours are allowed to be part of the look.

Yak wool stays beautiful longest with gentle handling. Air your garment between wears, and wash it in cold water with wool detergent. Dry flat and avoid wringing. Store folded rather than on a hanger to keep its shape.

Yak wool comes from the animal's soft undercoat, just like cashmere from the goat — it's not the guard hairs but the layer beneath that's used. It's combed out in spring, when the animal naturally sheds its winter coat.

A single yak yields enough wool for a whole sweater on its own — far more than a single cashmere goat can provide. Both the yarn and the knitting are made in Mongolia, the same place the animals live.
